At home the kids have always watched meaningful content. A mix of different genres that open our heart and mind.
Mother to pre teen voracious readers
I truly believe that we consume by not just eating but through our environment as well. It may not show up on our physical self immediately but plays on the subconscious. Watching good content has the power to nourish and shape the young minds.
So, we started the year end winter break with stories that inspire us, albeit a little Bollywood style. (their current exposure is very low) Yesterday they saw Chak De India. Here are some of their takeaways. It made for great bedtime chat.
Me: Did you like the movie, what did you learn from it?
Daughter(enthusiastically): I loved it! Especially the parts where the girls beat up the boys that were eve teasing and how they worked towards achieving the impossible.
Son(doesn’t play a lot of sport as dyspraxia hinders his co-ordination): I understood that sport isn’t played by fitness alone but by team spirit. I also learnt that we shouldn’t undermine anyone’s power.
Me: They are both very important lessons!
Daughter: I also learnt that anger can be changed into strength.
Me: Yes! We can channelise our emotions into power and use it for our benefit instead of harm.
Daughter: what did you learn?
Me: That rewatching a movie can be as much fun as the first time, especially with you both!
